Part One. The foundations

Chapter 2

Blockchain for those who never needed it

9 min read Updated 3 November 2026

In the villages of Savoie and Haute-Savoie, the fruitières, the cooperative cheese dairies, long ran on a principle any village child could understand. Every morning and every evening, the farmers brought their milk to the cooperative, the cheesemaker weighed it, and the quantity was written in a notebook. At the end of the season, the proceeds from the tommes, reblochons or beauforts were shared in proportion to the litres delivered. Everything rested on that notebook, and therefore on the honesty of whoever kept it.

Now imagine that every farmer has their own copy of the notebook. Every evening, they all compare their copies and keep only the entries on which a large majority agrees. No page can be torn out, no figure scratched away, since every page carries a fingerprint that depends on all the previous ones. Nobody holds the notebook alone, and yet everyone can rely on it. You have just understood a blockchain. The rest is mechanics.

To judge an RWA project, there is no need to know how to code. A little vocabulary and a few sound intuitions are enough, the kind that let you hold your own with a developer without blushing.
